Killarney, Glengarry, Richmond, and Knob Hill are established inner-city communities in southwest Calgary, around the Crowchild Trail and 17 Avenue SW corridors. Many of the original mid-century bungalows are still here, but much of the area has filled in with newer infills, including semi-detached and side-by-side builds on narrow lots. Permanent lights suit both: the track is colour-matched to the trim and stays quiet in daylight, then gives you warm white every night and holiday colour when you want it—no ladder against a tight side yard every November, and nothing to take down in January.
This page is the neighbourhood guide for these inner southwest communities. The quadrant overview is permanent Christmas lights in SW Calgary; nearby are Altadore, Marda Loop and South Calgary and Mount Royal, Elbow Park and Britannia, and for infills and semi-detached homes see Calgary townhouses, duplexes and infills.
What a permanent system is
A professional permanent system is colour-matched aluminum track fastened along the fascia or soffit, with fully sealed IP68 LED modules sitting inside the channel. A dedicated warm-white channel handles everyday architectural light, and colour channels cover Christmas, Halloween, Diwali, Canada Day, Flames nights, or whatever you schedule in the app. In daylight the track reads as part of the trim. Nothing is clipped to an eavestrough, and nothing comes down in January.
Where we work in Killarney, Glengarry, Richmond, and Knob Hill
- Killarney and Glengarry. An inner southwest community with many original bungalows and a large number of newer infills and semi-detached homes.
- Richmond and Knob Hill. Established inner-city streets with a similar mix of older bungalows, newer two-storey infills, and side-by-side builds.
Infills and semi-detached homes
Newer infills tend to have tall, clean fronts, flat or low-slope roof sections, and modern fascia—often black or charcoal—which makes a single crisp line along each level look sharp. On a semi-detached or side-by-side, each owner can light their own half; if both neighbours want the same look, we can plan the runs so the two halves line up. Narrow side yards and close neighbours mean access is part of the measure, and we will tell you plainly if a section cannot be reached safely. See permanent lights on modern Calgary homes.
Original bungalows
The original bungalows are often the simplest and most affordable homes to light, with one long, low eave across the front. On older homes we check the fascia: soft, cracked, or hail-damaged wood is better repaired or wrapped first, and if a reroof or new eavestroughs are planned it usually makes sense to do that before the lights go on. If you are planning to rebuild or renovate soon, it can make sense to wait and plan the lights with the new exterior. More in permanent lights on Calgary bungalows and split-levels.
Townhouses and community rules
Lights on your own detached or semi-detached home are generally your call. Townhouse and condo complexes usually have a board that controls the exterior, so check what applies before booking. A colour-matched track that reads as trim in daylight is usually an easy conversation. See permanent Christmas lights and Calgary HOA rules.
Chinooks and deep cold
Inner southwest Calgary gets the same chinook swings and deep cold snaps as the rest of the city, with meltwater running to the gutter line and refreezing overnight. Clip-on strings on an eavestrough take the brunt of that. Fastened aluminum track with sealed IP68 modules mounts to the fascia or soffit, not the eavestrough, has no loose wire to catch the wind, and carries a 10-year warranty on the lights. More in how permanent lights handle Calgary chinooks.
What it costs
Price depends on the linear footage of eave you want lit, the number of gables and peaks, and how the high runs are reached—not on the community name. Published Canadian industry ranges commonly sit around $3,000 to $6,000 for a front-facing install; on many average two-storey Calgary homes the conversation often lands near $4,000 to $5,000. Bungalows and short fronts can come in lower; wide fronts, multi-gable roofs, tall rooflines, or full-home coverage run higher. Those are industry ranges for context, not a Luminair quote. Luminair measures your roofline and gives a fixed price. See the Calgary permanent Christmas lights cost guide.

- Note your trim colour, any planned roofing or eavestrough work, any heritage, condo, or association rules, and where your outdoor outlets are.
- Upload a photo to the preview tool, then request a quote or call 587-355-1317.
Common questions
Does Luminair install permanent Christmas lights in Killarney, Glengarry, Richmond, and Knob Hill?
Yes. Killarney, Glengarry, Richmond, Knob Hill, and nearby inner southwest Calgary streets are part of the Calgary-area service area. Request a quote and we will confirm scheduling for your address.
Can I light just my half of a semi-detached infill?
Yes. Each owner can light their own side. If your neighbour wants lights too, we can plan the runs so both halves line up.
How much do permanent lights cost on an inner-city infill?
It depends on linear footage of eave, the number of levels and peaks, and height rather than the community. Published industry ranges are roughly $3,000 to $6,000 for a front-facing install, and narrow fronts can come in lower. Luminair measures and gives a fixed price.
Will the track look right on black or charcoal fascia?
Yes. The track is colour-matched to your trim, so on dark fascia it reads as part of the trim in daylight.
Will permanent lights hold up to chinooks and cold snaps?
The track is fastened aluminum with sealed IP68 modules, mounted to the fascia or soffit rather than the eavestrough, so it does not sit in meltwater or flap in the wind. The lights carry a 10-year warranty.
