Warm white Luminair permanent lights along the soffit of a stucco two-storey in south Calgary in winter

Shawnessy, Somerset, Bridlewood, Evergreen, and Silverado fill much of Calgary’s far south end, west of Macleod Trail and south of Fish Creek Provincial Park. They were built over roughly three decades—Shawnessy is among the oldest of the group, and Silverado among the newest—so one drive can take you past 1980s bungalows, 1990s and 2000s two-storeys with front double garages, estate homes, walkouts, and newer laned streets. Permanent lights go up once, read as trim in daylight, and give you warm white every night and holiday colour when you want it—no ladder on an icy driveway every November.

This page is the neighbourhood deep-dive for these south Calgary communities. The wider picture is in permanent Christmas lights in SW Calgary; to the west are Aspen Woods, Springbank Hill and West Springs, and just south of the city are Heritage Pointe and De Winton. What a permanent system is

A professional permanent system is colour-matched aluminum track fastened along the fascia or soffit, with fully sealed IP68 LED modules sitting inside the channel. A dedicated warm-white channel handles everyday architectural light, and colour channels cover Christmas, Halloween, Diwali, Canada Day, Flames nights, or whatever you schedule in the app. In daylight the track reads as part of the trim. Nothing is clipped to an eavestrough, and nothing comes down in January.

Where we work in far south Calgary

  • Shawnessy. Bungalows, bi-levels, and two-storeys that are now decades old, many with original or older fascia and a mix of attached and detached garages.
  • Somerset and Bridlewood. 1990s and 2000s two-storeys with front double garages, some bungalows and villas, and townhouse rows along the collector roads.
  • Evergreen. Two-storeys and larger estate homes, with walkouts on lots that slope toward the Fish Creek valley, where the rear eave can sit a full storey higher than the front.
  • Silverado. Newer front-garage two-storeys, laned homes, semi-detached pairs, and townhouses.

Front garages, estate rooflines, and walkouts

Front-garage two-storeys in Somerset, Bridlewood, and Silverado usually have a long run across the garage plus an upper eave and one or two gables. Most owners light the street-facing side first and decide on side or rear eaves separately. Evergreen’s larger homes often carry more gables, hips, and returns, and sometimes a high front entry; each peak and return adds a little labour, so we measure the actual runs rather than guessing from the house size.

Walkout lots put the rear eave well above grade. Lighting the back adds a lot to the view from the yard or the valley side, but access takes more planning, so we price the rear as its own line. Start with the front and add the back later if you like; the track and controller are designed to extend.

Older Shawnessy homes

Homes in the older streets are often bungalows and bi-levels with long, low eaves that are easy to reach and light well. We check fascia condition at the quote; a soft, cracked, or hail-damaged section is better repaired before the lights go on. Older homes also tend to have fewer outdoor outlets, so we look at where the controller can plug in. Exterior outlets should be weatherproof and GFCI-protected; if a new one is needed, a licensed electrician should install it. More in Calgary bungalows and split-levels and permanent lights and Calgary hail.

Community associations and guidelines

These communities have community or residents’ associations, and some newer phases were built with architectural guidelines. Check whether anything on your title or in your association applies to exterior lighting before booking; a colour-matched track that reads as trim in daylight is usually an easy conversation. Townhouse and villa owners should check their condo board first. See permanent Christmas lights and Calgary HOA rules and Calgary townhouses and duplexes.

South-end weather on these rooflines

Like the rest of the city, the south end swings between deep cold and chinook thaws, with meltwater running to the gutter line and refreezing overnight, and wind off the foothills loads anything clipped to an eavestrough. Fastened aluminum track with sealed IP68 modules has no loose wire to catch the wind and nothing for meltwater to pool in, and the system carries a 10-year warranty on the track, LED modules, and controller. More in Calgary winters, chinooks, and snow load.

What it costs

Price depends on the linear footage of eave you want lit, the number of gables and peaks, and how the high runs are reached—not on the community name. Published Canadian industry ranges commonly sit around $3,000 to $6,000 for a front-facing install; on many average two-storey Calgary homes the conversation often lands near $4,000 to $5,000. Short townhouse and laned fronts can come in lower; wide double-garage fronts, multi-gable roofs, walkout rear eaves, or full-home coverage run higher. Those are industry ranges for context, not a Luminair quote. Luminair measures your roofline and gives a fixed price. See the Calgary permanent Christmas lights cost guide.

Common questions

Does Luminair install permanent Christmas lights in Evergreen, Shawnessy, and Somerset?

Yes. Shawnessy, Somerset, Bridlewood, Evergreen, Silverado, and nearby south Calgary streets are part of the Calgary-area service area. Request a quote and we will confirm scheduling for your address.

Can you light the rear of a walkout home in Evergreen?

Yes. Rear eaves on walkout lots sit higher, so we plan access and price the back as its own line. Many owners start with the front and add the rear later.

How much do permanent lights cost on a Somerset or Bridlewood two-storey?

It depends on linear footage of eave, gables, and access rather than the neighbourhood. Published industry ranges are roughly $3,000 to $6,000 for a front-facing install, and many average two-storeys land near $4,000 to $5,000. Luminair measures and gives a fixed price.

My Shawnessy bungalow is older. Is the fascia a problem?

Not usually, but we check it at the quote. The track fastens to the fascia or soffit, so a soft or damaged section is best repaired first. Aluminum-capped fascia in good condition is fine.

Do I need approval from an association or condo board?

It depends on your home. Some newer phases have architectural guidelines, and townhouses and villas usually have a condo board. Check what applies before booking; we can send product details and photos if you need them for a request.
