Warm white Luminair permanent lights on a bungalow roofline in southwest Calgary at night

Woodbine, Woodlands, Cedarbrae, and Braeside are established southwest Calgary communities, with Woodbine and Woodlands along the western side of Fish Creek Provincial Park. Most homes here date from roughly the 1970s and 1980s, so the streets are a mix of bungalows, bi-levels, split-levels, and two-storeys, many on mature crescents. Permanent lights go up once, read as trim in daylight, and give you warm white every night and holiday colour when you want it—no ladder on an icy driveway every November, and no strings to take down in January.

This page is the neighbourhood guide for these established southwest communities. The quadrant overview is permanent Christmas lights in SW Calgary; nearby are Evergreen, Shawnessy and Somerset and Signal Hill, Strathcona and Discovery Ridge, and for the house styles common here see permanent lights on Calgary bungalows and split-levels.

What a permanent system is

A professional permanent system is colour-matched aluminum track fastened along the fascia or soffit, with fully sealed IP68 LED modules sitting inside the channel. A dedicated warm-white channel handles everyday architectural light, and colour channels cover Christmas, Halloween, Diwali, Canada Day, Flames nights, or whatever you schedule in the app. In daylight the track reads as part of the trim. Nothing is clipped to an eavestrough, and nothing comes down in January.

Bungalows, bi-levels, and split-levels

Long, low eaves light well with one continuous line, and these homes are often the most affordable to do because there is less height and fewer peaks. On a bi-level the raised main floor puts the front eave a little higher than a bungalow, and on a split-level the roofline steps between sections—the track follows each step so the line stays clean. More in permanent lights on Calgary bungalows and split-levels.

Two-storeys and walkouts

On a two-storey, many owners start with the full front—garage eave plus the upper roofline—and add the sides or back later, since the track and controller are designed to extend. Where a lot slopes and the home is a walkout, the rear eave sits a full storey higher above the yard, so height and access are part of the measure. Many owners light the front first, where it is seen from the street, and decide on the rear later.

Older fascia, reroofs, and hail

Homes from the 1970s and 1980s have usually had at least one reroof, and many Calgary roofs have been redone after hail. Because the track fastens to the fascia or soffit, we check its condition at the quote: soft, cracked, or hail-dented fascia is better repaired or wrapped first. If a reroof or new eavestroughs are planned, it usually makes sense to do that before the lights go on. Mature trees can also crowd parts of an eave, so we plan ladder placement and tell you if a section cannot be reached safely. See permanent lights and Calgary hail.

Townhouses and community rules

Lights on your own detached house are generally your call. Townhouse and condo complexes usually have a board that controls the exterior, so check what applies before booking. A colour-matched track that reads as trim in daylight is usually an easy conversation. See permanent Christmas lights and Calgary HOA rules and Calgary townhouses, duplexes and infills.

Chinooks, cold snaps, and snow

Southwest Calgary sits in the path of the chinooks coming off the foothills, and it gets the same deep cold snaps as the rest of the city, with meltwater running to the gutter line and refreezing overnight. Clip-on strings on an eavestrough take the brunt of that. Fastened aluminum track with sealed IP68 modules has no loose wire to catch the wind and nothing for meltwater to pool in, and the system carries a 10-year warranty on the lights. What it costs

Price depends on the linear footage of eave you want lit, the number of gables and peaks, and how the high runs are reached—not on the community name. Published Canadian industry ranges commonly sit around $3,000 to $6,000 for a front-facing install; on many average two-storey Calgary homes the conversation often lands near $4,000 to $5,000. Bungalows and short fronts can come in lower; wide fronts, multi-gable roofs, tall rooflines, or full-home coverage run higher. Those are industry ranges for context, not a Luminair quote. Luminair measures your roofline and gives a fixed price. See the Calgary permanent Christmas lights cost guide.

Common questions

Does Luminair install permanent Christmas lights in Woodbine, Woodlands, Cedarbrae, and Braeside?

Yes. Woodbine, Woodlands, Cedarbrae, Braeside, and nearby southwest Calgary streets are part of the Calgary-area service area. Request a quote and we will confirm scheduling for your address.

How much do permanent lights cost on a southwest Calgary bungalow or two-storey?

It depends on linear footage of eave, the number of peaks, and height rather than the community. Published industry ranges are roughly $3,000 to $6,000 for a front-facing install, and bungalows and bi-levels can come in lower. Luminair measures and gives a fixed price.

My home is from the 1970s or 1980s. Is the fascia a problem?

Usually not. We check the fascia at the quote, and if it is soft, cracked, or hail-damaged we will recommend repairing or wrapping it first. If a reroof or new eavestroughs are planned, do that before the lights go on.

Can you light a split-level roofline?

Yes. The track follows each step in the roofline so the line stays clean, and every change of direction is part of the measure.

Will permanent lights hold up to chinooks and cold snaps?

The track is fastened aluminum with sealed IP68 modules, mounted to the fascia or soffit rather than the eavestrough, so it does not sit in meltwater or flap in the wind. The lights carry a 10-year warranty.
